What is Lipila?

Lipila is a payment gateway designed to make accepting payments and managing your business online simple and seamless.

We provide a secure, reliable, and convenient platform for sending and receiving money, all in one place, whenever you need it.

With Lipila, you can:

Get Started

To begin using Lipila, you’ll need to create a Merchant Account and set up your integration.

Step 1: Create an Account

Sign up for a Lipila Merchant Account and start building your integration right away.

Important

Do Not share your Api key with anyone — it provides direct access to your account.
Treat it like a password.

Step 2: Make a Collection

Lipila collections can be initiated in two ways. These are through ussd and proximity payments via the collections endpoint

USSD Payments

Once your account is created, a wallet is automatically created for you. This wallet provides you with a till number, which your clients can use to make payments.

USSD is especially useful for customers without internet access, ensuring everyone can pay securely.

Important

Ussd works for MTN, Zamtel and Airtel Only.

Proximity Payments

Lipila also allows merchants to collect through proximity payment. In this case the merchant initiates the payment which then sends a prompt to the payee. In order to complete the payment the payee has to enter their pin. If the pin is not entered the transaction fails.

Step 2: Make a Disbursements

Lipila disbursements are initiated via the dashboard for logged in users or via the api as shown in the payments section.

Important

Disbursements Do not require clients to enter their pin.
